The Functional Anatomy for Movement and Injuries (FAMI) Workshop is a four-day immersion course in anatomy and injuries for movement professionals. Held in a medical school, the course brings the best of medical education to the movement world, including Gross Anatomy labs and physician-led lectures. Gain hands-on experience with cadaver prosections – see the spinal cord, touch the inside of a shoulder joint, feel a knee replacement, understand the pelvic floor – and get your questions answered by top anatomists and physicians.
The FAMI Workshop is designed to help you master the human body so you can better help your clients. The curriculum takes participants on a head-to-toe journey of the body, focusing on a specific body region and including the following elements each day.
Lead by anatomists, these lectures are held at the beginning of each day and orient the student to the particular musculoskeletal and nervous system anatomy of the day’s body region.
Lead by orthopedists, neurologists and sports-medicine physicians on our clinical faculty, these sessions shed light on many common injuries affecting the day’s body region: demystifying what happens to the body, why it happens, and how the injury should be treated.
For three hours each day, participants learn anatomy in 3-D in the Gross Anatomy lab. In small groups, participants explore prosections (regions of cadavers that have been meticulously dissected to demonstrate intricate details of anatomy) and engage in discussions lead by anatomy faculty.
Led by physical therapists, these lectures link knowledge gleaned during the day to movement and client scenarios–offering a beginning exploration into the anatomy behind injury prevention and rehabilitation principles.
These sessions give the fitness professional an overview of radiologic modalities – what they are, how they work and why they are used. Participants also learn how to read images, identifying the normal from the not-so-normal.
FAMI is by far my most gratifying educational experience. I am grateful to be a part of this team who is as passionate about the art of teaching as they are the science of anatomy.

FAMI Scholarship
We are often able to offer a full-tuition, need-based scholarship for a first-time FAMI Workshop student. Inspired by a generous gift from a FAMI alum, this scholarship is designated for a movement professional in need of financial assistance who is just beginning his/her career, including an individual who is transitioning from another field of work. The scholarship is usually awarded by the end of May. View application and eligibility requirements. Email us to for more info.
